This comes after the State noticed that contempt cases against its officers were snowballing for non-compliance with the court orders.
The High Court had accordingly directed the officers in contempt to appoint a lawyer at their own expense in such cases rather than being represented by Government Pleaders.
Following this, a review meeting was convened by the Chief Secretary on 26th November, where it was decided that the officials responsible for contempt of court cases shall be suspended with immediate effect.
In the memo set out by the Principal Secretary of General Administration, it was also stated that the court orders should be complied with in time or an appeal should be filed on time if it's appealable.
As such, the State found that the Government Pleaders, Section Officers and Assistants are responsible for such failures and that they shall be accountable for such inaction.
Therefore, it was decided to put assistant and section officers to be placed under suspension immediately upon their failure to comply with a court order of preferring an appeal against the same in the event of a contempt case arising against them.
