While urging a Kerala Court to grant her anticipatory bail, CPM Member and former Kannur district Panchayath President PP Divya, accused of abetting the suicide of Additional District Magistrate Naveen Babu, argued on Thursday that she had no intent to abet the commission of the alleged offence.

Thalassery Principal Sessions Court Judge K T Nisar Ahmed after hearing the arguments reserved its verdict which is set to be pronounced on October 29.

As per the case registered by the police, ADM Naveen Babu allegedly committed suicide due to public humiliation from Divya during his farewell function. It is alleged that in her speech during the farewell function, Divya had accused the deceased of corruption in connection with the opening of a fuel outlet. The crime was registered at Kannur Town Police Station under Section 194 (police to enquire and report on suicide) of the BNSS.

Divya contended that she is an active social and political worker who is rendering service to the public. It was also stated that Divya had received complaints regarding ADM Naveen Babu. It was stated that she had no intent to abet the commission of suicide of ADM Naveen Babu and that she was speaking only with bonafide intentions to remove corruption from the system. Further, it was also submitted that her bail application must be considered liberally as she is a woman. It was also stated that there were no criminal antecedents and bail must be granted and she is ready to co-operate with the investigation.

The counsel appearing on behalf of ADM Naveen Babu's wife submitted that her husband was an honest officer and that his self-respect was affected by the corruption allegations made by Divya. It was submitted that her husband underwent severe mental trauma after the farewell function which led to his suicide.

The public prosecutor contended that Divya had pre-planned to make a speech during the farewell function. It was also argued that Divya made allegations against ADM Naveen Babu without any evidence with an intent to tarnish his reputation. It was alleged that Divya made allegations against ADM Naveen Babu due to personal vengeance.

Advocate K Viswan appeared on behalf of Divya.
