On Monday, 5th January 2024, Kerala Finance Minister K N Balagopal gave his budget speech in the state assembly for the financial year 2024-25.

Here are the key announcements from the budget speech:

Judiciary

An amount of rupees 44.14 crores is earmarked for various activities for the judicial department. For modernising the High Court and subordinate Courts with Information Communication Technology, an amount of rupees 3.30 crores is set aside.

Judicial City

The budget speech mentioned the decision taken in a meeting between the Hon'ble Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Chief Justice A J Desai to set up an extensive judicial city with a new High Court and associated judicial offices in Kalamaserry, Ernakulam.

Enhancing Security and Modernisation

An amount of rupees 15.04 crores is earmarked for enhancing the security of courts for creating a better working atmosphere and for modernisation of the High Court, Subordinate Courts and the Kerala Judicial Academy.

Basic Infrastructure of Judiciary

An amount of rupees 18 crores was earmarked as state share for the basic infrastructural development of the judiciary. It was also stated that an amount of rupees 27 crores was expected as a central share for the infrastructural development of the judiciary in the state.
