The State Government on Monday informed the Karnataka High Court that it has decided that all repeater students including those private candidates who had failed in the last year's II PUC Examination will be promoted by awarding passing marks and grace marks.

A division bench of Justice B V Nagarathna and Justice Hanchate Sanjeekumar was also informed that for fresh candidates, who the state government has decided to promote without them appearing for examination due to covid-19 situation, will be assessed in terms of 45 percent marks each on the basis of their performance in SSLC examination and I PUC exams and 10 percent marks will be in terms of II PUC internal assessment. It was also informed that the results will be declared before July 31. As regards fresh private candidates, the court was informed that the examination will be conducted before August 31 and results will be declared before September 20.

The information was provided by the government during the hearing of a petition filed by SV Singre Gowda. The court recorded the details given by the state and accordingly disposed of the matter.

Earlier, the court had directed the state to not announce the results of those students who have to take the II PUC exams this year for the first time, as it was yet to take a comprehensive decision.  t

Previously the government had informed the court that there are around 76,387 repeater students. These include students who want to improve their previous performance or those students who appeared last year and failed. Further, it was informed that there are around 17,477 private students who have not given I PUC exams and their marks are not available. Thus they may have to compulsorily appear for the II PUC exams.

Advocate R P Someshekharia, appearing for the petitioner, informed the court that he would not press for relief for private students but only for repeaters. The plea had prayed for the quashing of the notification dated June 3 by which all II PUC students (freshers) were to be promoted based on the marks obtained in I PUC class, but without extending the said benefit to repeaters and private students. Alternatively it had sought to direct the authorities to modify the notification and give benefit of passing of II year PUC to repeater students and private students on the basis of marks obtained in I PUC.
