Karnataka HC Grants Permission For Constructing HC Annexe Building Inside Cubbon Park Without Cutting Trees [Read Order]

The Karnataka High Court has granted permission to the Registrar General to construct an annexe building inside Cubbon Park area, after a revised plan submitted prevents cutting of 17 trees or shifting of road.

A division bench of Justice P S Dinesh Kumar allowed the petition filed by the Registrar General which sought permission to construct the annexe building in place of old election commissioners office, situated inside Cubbon Park.

As per judgement delivered in the case of G.K.Govinda Rao V/s. State of Karnataka, permission of the High Court is needed before caring out any construction, inside Cubbon Park. Advocate Sriranga, appearing for the Registrar General submitted that after filling of the petition a revised plan is submitted there is no necessity to cut 17 trees as proposed in the earlier plan. Further, the plinth area has been restricted to the existing plinth area.

Assistant Solicitor General, Prabhuling K.Navadagi submitted that state government will construct the building strictly in accordance with the revised plan. Accordingly, the court ordered "Permission is granted to put up construction as per revised plan without cutting any tree."
