A plea in the Bombay High Court seeks to initiate contempt proceedings against actress Kangana Ranaut for tweeting a video in alleged violation of her undertaking given to the court.

The petition filed by casting director and original complainant- Munnawarali Sayyed -is in the same proceedings in which Kangana and her sister Rangoli have sought quashing of the sedition FIR registered against them.

Sayyed claims that during the last hearing, on November 24, when Kangana was granted interim relief by the High Court, she, through her advocate, Rizwan Siddiquee had undertaken to appear before the Bandra police for investigation on, January 8, 2021 and further that she would not make any comment on the Social Media/Electronic Media so far as the subject FIR is concerned.

However, the while appearing before the local police, Rangana put out a tweet accompanied by a video message. The tweet begins with "Why am I being mentally, emotionally and now physically tortured?..." In the video Kanagana goes on to talk about the status of women in the medieval era while complaining about the hardships she's being put through.

The complaint says that Kangana tweeted in "utter disregard to the dignity, decorum and Order of the High Court which squarely falls within the ambit of Section 2 (b) and (c) of the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971."Adding that this tweet is a portrayal of her callous and disobedient attitude towards orders of the court.

" The contemptuous intent and motive of tweeting the said police station visit is with sole and ulterior motive to gather support during her visit to the Police Station," Sayyed has claimed in the petition.

Sayyed had first approached the Magistrate Court claiming that the sisters were "trying to create hatred and communal tension between Hindus and Muslims" through their tweets, following which an FIR registered against the duo.

Kangana and her sister Rangoli then approached the Bombay High Court in November seeking quashing of the "absolutely vague and baseless" FIRs.

Sayyed's plea is now likely to be heard on January 25.
