The first Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court Justice WA Shishak passed away at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal on Thursday.

Justice Shishak was born at Shangshak village in Ukhrul district of the State of Manipur. He started practice at the Gauhati High Court in March, 1967 after obtaining his LL.B. from the Delhi University. Later, he shifted to Nagaland, where he served as a Senior Government Advocate for seven years.

He was elevated as a Judge of the Gauhati High Court on January 2, 1989 and was appointed as the first Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court upon formation of the State in 2000. Subsequently, he was transferred as the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court in 2002. He retired on January 1, 2003.

The Chhattisgarh High Court has scheduled a Full Court Reference in the honour of Justice Shishak on Friday.
