'We Owe A Duty To Future Generations To Preserve The Fruits Of Freedom': Justice S V Bhatti

During the inaugural address of the event, a part of the broader initiative to commemorate India's 75 years of Independence, Justice SV Bhatti reminded that the fruits of the freedom which we enjoy today are the results of the selfless sacrifices made by our ancestors and correspondingly, we owe a duty to our coming generations to preserve this freedom. He exhorted the participants consisting of 35 law students, judges of the subordinate judiciary and other dignitaries representing the Thiruvananthapuram Bar Association, administrators of Law Colleges in Thiruvananthapuram, and other stakeholders to inculcate and practise the principles envisaged in Article 51 A of the Indian Constitution, regarding fundamental duties.

… for achieving this aim (to preserve freedom), we need to inculcate, nurture and practice the responsibilities cast upon every citizen, by sub-articles (b), (c ) and (g) of Article 51 A of the Constitution of India, he said.

The judge proposed a solemn declaration and commitment for preserving the environment which was circulated in the meeting. The pledge was undertaken by the participants who were physically present in the meeting.
