Justice Shree Chandrashekhar Appointed As Acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court

The Union Government has formally announced the appointment of Justice Shree Chandrashekhar as the Acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. The notification was issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on Wednesday.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, Judge of the Jharkhand High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from 29.12.2023 consequent upon the retirement of Shree Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra, Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court on 28.12.2023," the Notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice said.

This appointment follows the retirement of Chief Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra, who will be serving as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court until December 28, 2023.

Born on 25th May 1965, Justice Shree Chandrashekhar completed his LL.B. course from Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi, in the year 1993 and was enrolled as an Advocate with the Delhi State Bar Council on 09.12.1993. Embarking on a legal career, he practiced in both Criminal and Civil sides in Delhi. Over a span of 19 years, he handled approximately 3500 cases, primarily in the Supreme Court of India, with around 140 reported judgments where he appeared as counsel.

Justice Shree Chandrashekhar served as the standing Counsel for All India Council for Technical Education and the State of Jharkhand in the Supreme Court. Additionally, he represented entities such as Bihar State Housing Board, Bihar State Pollution Control Board, Jharkhand State Electricity Board, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, and various other Corporations and Institutes. He was also the retained counsel for private companies.

His judicial journey began with his appointment as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Jharkhand, Ranchi, on 17.01.2013. Recognizing his contributions and capabilities, he was subsequently appointed as a permanent Judge of the High Court of Jharkhand, Ranchi, on 27.06.2014.
