The President on Thursday appointed Justice Ravi Shanker Jha, presently serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Justice Jha enrolled as an Advocate in the Madhya Pradesh High Court in 1986 and practiced on civil, revenue and Constitutional sides at Jabalpur. He was elevated as a permanent judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on February 2, 2007. Subsequently, he assumed the office as Acting Chief Justice of the High Court on June 10, 2019.

The Collegium had recommended his name on August 28 and his appointment will take effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.

The former CJ of P&H HC, Justice Krishna Murari,nwas elevated to Supreme Court last month.
