The Central Government has notified the elevation of Dr. Justice Ravi Ranjan, Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. His appointment will take effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.

Jharkhand High Court has been functioning without a Chief Justice ever since the elevation of former CJ Justice Aniruddha Bose as Supreme Court judge last May. Justice Prashant Kumar, who was made the Acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand HC, had passed away on August 30.

Justice Ranjan's elevation was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on October 15.

Justice Ranjan did his LL.B course from Patna Law College in 1989 and joined the Patna High Court Bar in December, 1990. He was elevated as an Additional Judge of Patna high Court in July, 2008 and was made permanent in January, 2010. He was transferred to the Punjab and Haryana High Court in November, 2018.
