Delhi High Court judge, Justice Pratibha M Singh, who was elected as an Honorary Fellow of Hughes Hall in July, visited the college last week for first time since the announcement.
Justice Singh, a Hughes Hall alumna, is the first Indian judge to enter the list of Hughes Hall Honorary Fellows. The decision to elect a person as an Honorary Fellow is taken by the Governing Body of the college.
"I studied at Hughes Hall in 1991-92, exactly thirty years ago. Cambridge and Hughes have contributed immensely in the growth of my career and life both by giving me a world vision and creating bonds of friendship that are strong to date. I take this election as a responsibility to further strengthen this vision and for taking forward the Cambridge-India ties. I graciously accept this Fellowship of Hughes," Justice Singh said in a statement to the Cambridge University college.
A graduate from the University Law College, Bangalore, Singh was offered the ODASSS scholarship by the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust to study LL.M at the University of Cambridge. She had then enrolled with the Bar in 1991.
Before being elevated to the Bench, she was a leading Intellectual Property lawyer in India. She has the distinction of handling landmark matters in all areas of IPR laws including patents, trademarks, designs, copyright, plant varieties, internet laws, etc.
Justice Singh currently heads the IP Division of the High Court and has passed landmark orders in several trademark infringement cases.
