Former Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice M. Rama Jois, passed away on Tuesday morning. He was 88 years old.

Jois was born on 27 July, 1932. He obtained his degree in law from a college in Bengaluru.

He held the office of Chief Justice at the Punjab and Haryana High Court between 3 May 1992 – 31 August 1992.

He was also a former Member of the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka and had served as the Governor of Bihar (from 12 June 2003 – 31 October 2004) and Jharkhand (from 15 July 2002 – 11 June 2003).

He was also a renowned writer who authored books like Legal and Constitutional History of India: Ancient, Judicial and Constitutional System and Seeds of Modem Public Law in Ancient Indian Jurisprudence.
