Former Supreme Court judge Justice Indira Banerjee has accepted the invitation to join West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) as a distinguished visiting professor.

In a LinkedIn post, NUJS has said: “We are extremely happy to share that Hon'ble Justice Indira Banerjee, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India has graciously accepted our invitation to join the University as Distinguished Visiting Professor.”

The varsity further said that Justice Banerjee has expressed inclination to teach courses on Constitutional Law and Family Law.

“We are excited to have Justice Banerjee among our faculty and we are certain that her experience and guidance will enrich the students,” the post added.

In November 2022, Former CJI U U Lalit had also accepted the invitation to join the varsity as Distinguished Visiting Professor, days after his retirement as the 49th Chief Justice of India.

Justice Indira Banerjee retired as a judge of the Supreme Court in September last year.

Justice Banerjee was elevated as a judge of the Calcutta High Court in 2002. In August 2016, she was transferred to the Delhi High Court. She became the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court in April 2017. In August 2018, she was elevated to the Supreme Court.
