Justice Conrad Stansilaus Dias was sworn in as an additional judge of High Court of Kerala on Monday.
The President of India had issued the warrant of his appointment on November 13. His appointment as additional judges is for a period of two years.
Notably, he is the first person from the Anglo-Indian community to be take office as a High Court judge in India. With his appointment, the Kerala HC has now 32 judges against a a sanctioned strength of 47 judges (35 permanent and 12 additional).
His name was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on March 25, 2019.
Justice Dias studied law at the Government Law College, Thiruvanathapuram during 1987-1992. He started his practice, as a partner of the law firm M/s.Dias Law Associates, in High Court of Kerala and Subordinate Courts in Ernakulam.
He was the Counsel for the High Court of Kerala since 27.05.2016, Retainer Standing Counsel for the Ministry of Railways in the High Court from 26.11.2010, Central Government Counsel for three years from 03.05.2012, Standing Counsel for the Indian Oil Corporation for the last 15 years. He was also a Member of National Advisory Committee to the Ministry of Women and Child Development since 15.02.2018. He was also Counsel and Consultant for several Non-Governmental Organizations, Institutions, Congregations and Corporates. He specialized in the fields of Civil, Arbitration and Family Law.
He was appointed as Amicus Curie in many cases by the High Court of Kerala, including the Puttingal Temple fire tragedy.
He is married to Adv.Mini Dias. They have two children - Adv.Raymond Dias, who is pursuing in Masters in Law in the University of Auckland and Renata Dias, who is pursuing her final year M.B.B.S at the Amala Medical College, Thrissur.
