In view of loss of court work due to the national lockdown, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court has cancelled the summer vacation for the HC scheduled from June 8 to June 26, 2020.
The High Court has also cancelled the routine 15 days summer vacations in District and Subordinate Courts in the UTs of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
The decision was taken in the backdrop of the two months long nationwide lockdown which has "adversely impacted" the functioning of the High Court as well as the District and Subordinate Courts in the two UTs.
As per an Administrative Order issued at the direction of Chief Justice Gita Mittal, judges of the High Court had overwhelmingly supported the proposal to cancel summer vacations for all the courts in the UTs.
The order stated,
"Considering the severe hardships faced by the litigants in the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh due to the impeded functioning of the Courts on account of lockdown to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it would be highly inappropriate and unjustified to proceed with the ensuing summer vacation in the High Court of J&K and Subordinate Courts in Jammu division."
