In view of the increasing burden on the medical infrastructure, the Rajasthan High Court recently asked the state government to seriously ponder upon increasing the existing cadre strength of Nursing/Non-Gazetted Staff.

The Bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Garg and Justice Sandeep Mehta also directed the State Counsel to apprise the Court regarding the proposed steps to appoint Bio-Medical Engineers and Hospital Management Specialists in all major hospitals in the State of Rajasthan.

The Government counsel has also been directed to inform the Court regarding the proposed steps for filling all vacant posts of Nursing/Non-Gazetted Staff in the Medical & Health Department.

The Court ordered this while pursuing the compliance report regarding the steps taken by the Authorities for up-gradation and enhancement of the medical facilities at Kota. The Court expressed its satisfaction with the up-gradation and enhancement of the medical facilities at Kota.

The State's Counsel pointed out that a total of 68209 posts of Nursing/Non-Gazetted Staff are sanctioned in the State, out of which 53010 are held by qualified staff and that the recruitment process had been initiated for 5120 vacant posts.

To this, noting that still the recruitment process has not been initiated for more than 10000 odd Nursing/Non-Gazetted Staff, the Court remarked:

"Filling all those posts is an emergent need of the hour. Looking to the looming risk of the third wave of COVID Pandemic, we request Shri Sharma to impress upon the authorities concerned to initiate a process for filling-up of the remaining posts as well."

Apart from this, the Court was apprised of the steps taken to upgrade the sewerage/drainage system of M.G.H., Jodhpur. It is also stated that the requisite amount had already been sanctioned for the improvement of the sewerage/drainage system.
