The Central Government has notified the appointment of six judicial officers as Additional Judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

They are:

  1. Ashok Kumar Verma;
  2. Sant Parkash;
  3. Meenakshi  Mehta;
  4. Karamjit Singh;
  5. Vivek Puri; and
  6. Archana Puri

Among the new judges, Vivek Puri and Archana Puri are a married couple. Thus, the High Court will witness a rare occasion of a husband and wife taking oath together as judges.

A similar instance of husband-wife duo being sworn in together as HC judges happened before in 2009 in Delhi High Court, when Justices A K Pathak and Indermeet Kaur were appointed.

The newly appointed judges will assume office in the above order of seniority and will hold the position for two years, with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices.

The SC Collegium had recommended the elevation of these Judicial Officers as judges of the high court, vide resolution dated September 27.

Through the same resolution, the Collegium had omitted Satish Agarwal from the list proposed by High Court Collegium.
