The Karnataka High Court has asked the state government about the action it is taking due to an alleged spike in cases of domestic violence, during the lockdown.

A division bench of Chief Justice Abhay Oka and Justice B V Nagarathna said;

"It is reported that there are a large number of instances of domestic violence as a consequence of the lockdown. The State Government will respond on this aspect by pointing out which are the helplines available across the State so that the affected men, women and children can complain about the domestic violence. The State will also point out what action is being taken on the basis of such complaints, if any."

The state is also directed to inform steps taken to provide assistance to those who are suffering from mental disturbance due to the situation created by COVID-19.

The court has also asked the state to respond to an email petition complaining about the breach of the guidelines concerning the social distancing in a marriage ceremony held recently in the house of a prominent political leader. Nikhil, son of former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy. The ceremony was held at Kumaraswamy's farmhouse at Kethaganahalli near Bidadi.
