Haridwar Dharam Sansad Hate Speech: Uttarakhand HC Seeks State's Reply On Swami Prabodhanand's Plea To Quash FIR

The Uttarakhand High Court on Friday sought the response of the Uttarakhand State Government on a plea moved by Swami Prabodhanand Giri seeking quashing of the FIR (First Information Report) registered against him in connection with Haridwar Dharam Sansad Hate Speech Case.

The Bench of Justice Narayan Singh Dhanik issued notice to the state and sought its reply by January 25 on Swami's petition in the High Court seeking quashing of the FIR and seeking a stay on his arrest in connection with the case regarding his alleged provocative speeches made at the 3-day Haridwar Dharam Sansad last month.

It may be noted that in connection with the Haridwar Dharam Sansad Hate speech case, the Uttarakhand Police have already arrested the Dasna Devi temple head priest, Yati Narsinghanand, whose bail plea was rejected by the Haridwar Court on Wednesday.

The Haridwar Local Court on Thursday also denied bail to hate speech accused Jitendra Tyagi Aka Wasim Rizvi, who has also been booked for his alleged insulting remarks on Prophet Mohammad which were made during the 'Dharam Sansad'.

In yet another development, the Attorney General for India KK Venugopal has granted his consent to initiate contempt proceedings against the 'Dharam Sansad' leader Yati Narsinghanand over his recent 'derogatory remarks' against the Constitution and the Supreme Court of India.
