More than 7 lakh cases were settled in the First National Lok Adalat of 2025 conducted on March 8 in Gujarat under the umbrella of the National Legal Service Authority (NALSA).
The event was graced with mass-level turnout, and the leadership was undertaken by Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court and Patron-in-Chief, Gujarat State Legal Service Authority, Justice Sunita Agarwal, and Senior Most Judge of the Gujarat High Court, Justice Biren A. Vaishnav.
They directed all District Legal Service Authorities and Taluka Legal Service Committees to ensure the maximum number of parties benefit from the Lok Adalat.
A record high of 13,02,486 pending cases including Motor Accident Compensation cases, Civil Suits, Negotiable Instrument Act cheque return cases, industrial and matrimonial disputes were admitted for adjudication. 7,03,517 among them were disposed of with an award of ₹2,743 crores.
Lok Adalat also resolved 4,37,797 pre-litigation cases amounting to ₹75.39 crores. In addition, 3,80,789 traffic e-challan cases were resolved with a settlement value of ₹18.80 crores.
The event also saw 2,761 pending marriage cases being disposed of. Also, on the instructions of the Hon'ble Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court, District Courts across the state conducted conciliation efforts for the settlement of 10-year-old cases, and among them, 823 such cases were settled successfully.
As compared to the previous year when nearly 10 lakh cases were settled at four National Lok Adalats, this year's campaign helped reduce court pendency while strengthening the alternative dispute resolution platform.
