Amidst the scare of COVID-9 pandemic, the District Magistrate of Gurugram on Tuesday issued an advisory asking all the Industries, MNCs, IT Firms, BPOs and other Corporate Offices in the city to allow their officers/ employees to work from their homes till March 31, 2020.

The advisory has been issued in compliance with the HaryanaEpidemic Disease, COVID-19 Regulations, 2020, issued by the state government on March 11, 2020.

These Regulations have been issued under the draconian Epidemic Disease Act, 1897.

The Act gives special powers to the Central and the State governments to declare any region as a disease prone area and to take measures for containment like screening of travellers, inspection of vessels, special wards for affected persons, etc. (pretty much everything the government is doing right now)

On Monday, the Delhi govt had also invoked the provisions of this Act to ban any gatherings of social/cultural/political/religious/academic/sports/family nature till March 31.

As per the state's Regulations, any person with a travel history in last 14 days to a country or area from where COVID-19 has been reported, must report to nearest Government Hospital or call at toll free helpline number 108, so that necessary measures if required may be intimated by Health Department.

All hospitals whether government or private, have been directed to set up a separate "Flu corner", for screening of suspected cases of COVID-19. During screening of such cases, the hospital will mandatorily record the travel history of the person.

The Regulation also prohibits any private Laboratory from taking or testing samples for COVID-19.
