In line with the circulars issued by the Supreme Court and various other high courts, the Gauhati High Court has restricted its functioning, along with that of the benches at Kohima, Aizwal and Itanagar, to hear urgent matters only.

In a bid to contain the spread of novel COVID-19, the High Court has decided that no one other than Advocates and parties appearing in-person who are to address the arguments, will be permitted to enter the court rooms.

The concerned Advocate/ party-in-person may provide the cause list number/ case number to the Court master by 10.15 am for urgent listing, which the court will hear only after being shown that the case is in fact of emergent nature. Remaining cases will by default stand adjourned.

The court has further ordered that every entrant to the court premises shall be compulsorily subjected to thermal screening and the ingress and egress gates will be restricted to Gate no. 4 and 1 respectively.

Entry of foreign nationals has strictly been restricted in all Courts and offices until further orders.

Instructions have also been issued to the Registrars of the HC benches at Kohima, Aizwal and Itanagar, and to all the subordinate courts and Tribunals to devise appropriate containment measures. They have also been advised to put video conferencing facility to optimum use for the purpose of recording evidence, and to avoid personal attendance.

These orders will remain in force until further orders.
