Former Chief Airport Officer (CAO) of the Trivandrum International Airport, Giri Madhusudana Rao has moved the Kerala High Court seeking anticipatory bail in the case where he was accused of raping a lady staff working under him.

A woman had come forward with rape allegations against Rao alleging that he seduced her to come over to his flat and thereby engaged in sexual intercourse without her consent on January 4, 2022.

Following this, he was suspended pending inquiry by the Adani Group after it received the complaint from the woman.

However, in his application filed through Advocate Sasthamangalam S. Ajithkumar, the petitioner has claimed that he is innocent of the allegations levelled against him.

According to him, the complaint was the woman's attempt to tarnish his reputation and a retaliatory step taken by her against his refusal to lend money to her.

The petitioner produced the WhatsApp chats between the duo to prove that the de facto complainant had maintained a good friendship with him since she joined the office and that she used to text him daily.

It is particularly pointed out that she used to message him as usual till 14th January, which is the date on which she filed the complaint.

He claims that after working out an emotional attachment with the petitioner, the de facto complainant painted herself to be hailing from her a poor family with outstanding debts amounting to 30 to 40 lakhs.

Under this pretext, she had apparently borrowed cash from the petitioner on several occasions.

The petitioner's case was that upon seeing his flat, the de facto complainant grew greedy and asked him to loan out 20 lakhs to her.

When he refused to accede to the same, disgruntled that her plans of extorting money didn't work out, she allegedly filed a false complaint of rape against him.

Rao added that the de facto complaint had no reason to visit his flat under a false pretext. It was also pointed out that there was no medical evidence in the case since she had not undergone any medical examination.

Additionally, he claimed that the defacto complainant failed to lodge a timely complaint. On these grounds, he pressed that he was fixed in a false case of rape.

Rao submitted that he is ready to co-operate with the investigation and that a thorough and impartial investigation will reveal the truth.

The application further states that he is a senior citizen and a fragile man suffering from various diseases such as high blood pressure, chronic diabetes and highly intensive CRP.

As such, he has prayed that he may be granted anticipatory bail in the matter.
