Engineer Rashid, who has defeated former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, has moved a Delhi Court seeking interim bail in order to permit him to take oath as a member of parliament

Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh of Patiala House Courts sought the response of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Rashid's interim bail plea.

The matter will now be heard tomorrow.

Though the plea was filed on June 05 and was listed for hearing today, the NIA did not file any reply and thus, the matter has been listed for June 07 for filing of response.

In the alternative, Rashid has sought custody parole to take oath and perform parliamentary functions.

Rashid has won by a margin of over two lakh votes from Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency.

Rashid has been in jail since 2019 after he was charged by NIA under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in alleged terror funding case. He is presently lodged in Tihar jail.
