The Allahabad High Court (Lucknow bench) on Friday sought details of the proposed preventive measures (to be taken by the State Government) to deal with the the dengue outbreak in the Lucknow City. 

The Lucknow Nagar Nagam has also been asked to file an affidavit swron by the Nagar Ayukt indicating the steps which are taken by it for checking the growth of mosquitoes and for ensuring sanitation in general in the city.

The bench of Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Saurabh Srivastava issued this direction while dealing with a PIL Plea pertaining to the medical facilities available in the State Government Hospitals. In this matter, the Court is also conerned with the widespread menace caused by various vector borne diseases such as Dengue, Chikungunya and other viral fever in the Lucknow city.

During the hearing of the matter on Thursday, the members of the Bar expressed their concern about the manner in which the vector borne diseases are spreading in the city of Lucknow and also apprised the Court regarding the 'grim' situation in the State run Hospitals.

In this view, the counsel representing the Lucknow Nagar Nigam and the state were directed to obtain complete instructions as to what steps are being taken by the State authorities as also by the Municipal Corporation to provide adequate medical treatment including providing of additional beds in the State run Hospitals and also making available adequate amount of blood platelets which are generally required in treatment of dengue.

Now, on Friday, the State counsel was further asked to indicate the steps which might have been taken, if they are required, under the provisions contained in the Uttar Pradesh Prevention and Control of Malaria, Dengue, KalaAzar and any Vector Borne Disease Regulations, 2016.

The Court also asked the State to file an affidavit stating as to whether the experts in the National Center for Vector Borne Diseases Control were consulted for not only treating the patients suffering from vector borne diseases but also for prevention of the same.

"Affidavit shall also indicate as to what measures are take by the State authorities for educating the people of the dangers of the vector borne diseases and the preventive measures, which are to be taken," the Court ordered as it posted the matter for further hearing on November 9, 2022.
