Delhi High Court has directed the Forensic Science Laboratory to expeditiously conduct DNA Test of a charred body which is claimed to be related to the riots that broke out in the northeast districts of Delhi.
The Single Bench of Justice Vibhu Bakhru has directed FSL to complete the test and communicate its results as expeditiously as possible and in any event on or before 18.04.2020.
The order has come in a plea moved by Gulshan, seeking directions to be issued to the Respondents for conducting DNA Test on a charred body as expeditiously as possible, and preferably within 7-10 days.
The Petitioner had claimed that her father was a victim of a violence that had erupted on 23.02.2020 in North East Delhi.
She further stated that he was shot and burnt. She has identified the body of her father, but since the body is charred, DNA matching has to be done to confirm the identity of the remains of her father. The said DNA test, she submitted, has not been conducted as of yet.
Appearing for the Delhi Government, Mr Naushad Ahmed Khan argued that the priority for DNA testing is accorded to the victims of the recent violence.
He further informed the court that the DNA matching of the body identified by the Petitioner would be done by 16.04.2020 as the same is already underway.
In light of these submissions, the court has directed the Delhi Government to abide by the same.
