Delhi High Court To Pronounce Order On Umar Khalid's Bail Plea On Tuesday

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday will pronounce its order on the bail appeal moved by student activist Umar Khalid, who is in custody in the larger conspiracy case of Northeast Delhi riots.
A division bench comprising of Justice Siddharth Mridul and Justice Rajnish Bhatnagar will be pronouncing the order at 2:15 PM.
The bench had reserved its decision on September 9.
Khalid had moved High Court after he was denied bail by city's Karkardooma Court on March 24. He was arrested on 13 September, 2020 and has been under custody since.
The FIR against Umar Khalid contains stringent charges including Sections 13, 16, 17, 18 of the UAPA, Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act and Section 3 and 4 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act,1984.
The main charge sheet was initially filed against Pinjara Tod members and JNU students Devangana Kalita and Natasha Narwal, Jamia Millia Islamia student Asif Iqbal Tanha and student activist Gulfisha Fatima.
Others who have been charge-sheeted include former Congress Councilor Ishrat Jahan, Jamia Coordination Committee members Safoora Zargar, Meeran Haider and Shifa-Ur-Rehman, former Aam Aadmi Party Councilor Tahir Hussain, activist Khalid Saifi, Shadab Ahmed, Tasleem Ahmed, Mohd Salim Khan and Athar Khan.
Thereafter, a supplementary charge-sheet was filed against Umar Khalid and JNU student Sharjeel Imam. Zargar, Kalita, Narwal, Tanha and Jahan have already been granted bail by the courts in the case.
In the bail appeal, Khalid's counsel had started arguments on April 22 and concluded on July 28. The prosecution began arguments on August 1 and concluded on September 07. The order was reserved on September 9. Khalid has been in custody for past 764 days.
