The Central Government has appointed judicial officers Poonam A. Bamba and Swarana Kanta Sharma as judges of the Delhi High Court.

The official notification issued on March 24, 2022, reads thus:

"In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint (i) Smt. Poonam A. Bamba and (ii) Ms. Swarana Kanta Sharma, to be Judges of the Delhi High Court, in that order of seniority, with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices."

The Supreme Court Collegium had, in its meeting dated 1st February, 2022, approved the proposal for elevating six Judicial Officers as Judges in the Delhi High Court, including the names of judicial officers Poonam A. Bamba and Swarana Kanta Sharma.

Out of the six names, four judges had already taken oath as judges of the Delhi High Court last month.

With the new appointments, the working strength of the High Court will now increase to 36.
