The Delhi High Court on Monday told the lawyer of Ashneer Grover, former Managing Director of BharatPe, to ask him to “maintain decorum”, while hearing the suit filed by the fintech company against him, his wife Madhuri Jain Grover and other individuals.

The defendants in the suit are Grover, his wife, his brother-in-law and father-in-law. BharatPe in the suit has accused Grover of running a "vicious campaign" against the company. 

Justice Navin Chawla also granted further time of three weeks’ to Grover and other defendants to file their responses to the interim applications moved by BharatPe. The court also issued notice in an application moved by Grover and his wife and asked the parties to file written statements in the suit.

The court had issued summons to the defendants in December last year.

During the hearing today, Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar appearing for BharatPe submitted before the court that Grover was making statements against the fintech company despite filing of the suit.

Nayar also said that Grover has “equated legal profession to prostitution” in his book which has been released recently.

As the court was taken through Grover’s tweets and statements, Justice Chawla orally remarked: “The social media has brought us down to this level.”

“Ask him to maintain decorum,” the court told Grover’s counsel.

BharatPe in the suit has sought damages of over Rs. 88 crores from the defendants. Among other reliefs, the suit seeks to restrain the defendants from making defamatory statements against the company.
