Delhi HC Directs Delhi University To Request Affiliated Colleges To Expedite The Process Of Evaluating Answer Sheets

The Division Bench of Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Subramonium Prasad has further directed the University to provide comfort letters for undergraduate students who are seeking admissions in Universities abroad.

Today, the Dean of Examinations informed the court that around 900 students approached the University seeking comfort letters to be sent explaining the delay in declaration of results to both the Universities in India and abroad. Out of these, 272 requests were for comfort letters to be sent to the foreign universities.

The court informed the University that it only needs to address the requests received for foreign universities as the University Grants Commission has already asked the Indian Universities to not to ask for results from students seeking admissions in postgraduate programmes till the revised academic plan is received.

For postgraduate students seeking admissions in foreign universities, the court highlighted that the Delhi University shall be declaring the results of students on its online portal on September 28. The court emphasised that the results shall be uploaded on the University's letterhead along with the digital signature of the concerned authority, and it shall not carry an rider stating that these results are provisional in nature.

'Students shall be able to utilise these online results in whatever way they want to', the court said.

For the undergraduate students seeking admissions in foreign universities, the court noted that comfort letters will be issued to the concerned universities directly in the format decided by the Grievance Redressal Committee. While issuing the comfort letters, priority should be given to students on the basis of cut-off dates prescribed by the foreign universities.
