A Delhi Court on Saturday ordered day to day hearing on the point of framing of charges against the accused persons in the case alleging a larger conspiracy in the 2020 North-East Delhi riots.
“…list the matter for arguments on the point of charge on 11.09.2023 onwards for day to day hearing. Ld. Special Public Prosecutor shall begin the argunents on 11.09.2023,” Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat of Karkardooma Courts said.
This was after the stage of compliance under Section 207 Cr.P.C (supply of documents) in respect of all the chargesheeted accused persons is complete today, more than two years after the proceedings in the case began in September 2020 with the filing of the first chargesheet.
The Delhi police has filed a total of four chargesheets in FIR 59/2020 which is being probed by the special cell. While the first chargesheet was filed on September 16, 2020, three supplementary chargesheets were filed on November 22, 2020, February 24, 2021 and March 02, 2022.
On April 05, the judge had closed the aspect of compliance under section 207 of CrPC for 17 accused, except Devangana Kalita. The same was completed today.
The accused are Tahir Hussain, Umar Khalid, Khalid Saifi, Isharat Jahan, Meeran Haider, Gulfisha Fatima, Shifa-Ur-Rehman, Asif Iqbal Tanha, Shadab Ahmed, Tasleem Ahmed, Saleem Malik, Mohd. Saleem Khan, Athar Khan, Safoora Zargar, Sharjeel Imam, Faizan Khan and Natasha Narwal.
During the hearing today, the court also directed all the accused persons to appear physically on next date onwards.
“The I.O (investigating officer) concerned shall remain present on the next date of hearing. Copy of this order be sent to the concerned Jail Superintendent for information and compliance,” the court said.
It added: “Special PublicProsecutor for the State and Ld. Counsels for all the accused persons. Copy of this order be also sent to the Worthy Commissioner of Police, Delhi.”
