In the wake COVID 19 lockdown, the Odisha Bar Council has decided to provide financial assistance to the lawyers having standing of less than 10 years practice across the state, who are in need of aid.
In a special committee meeting held yesterday, the Chairman and members had discussed the unprecedented situation due to outbreak of Corona virus in the state as well as across the country, after receiving representations from various bars for the financial help to needy lawyers.
The Special Committee of the Odisha State Bar Council, headed by Ashok Parija, Advocate General-cum-Chairman of the committee, in a statement said "It is hereby resolved by the Special Committee on behalf of the Odisha State Bar Council that financial assistance will be made available to such deserving advocates genuinely in need of financial aid on account of lockdown imposed due to Covid-19 from the Odisha State bar Council Advocates' Welfare Corpus Fund."
The committee requested all respective Bar Associations to send applications of deserving lawyers having below 10 years practice to the state bar council in the prescribed format within seven days from receipt of the resolution.
Talking to Livelaw, Parija said "at the moment, we are confining to provide the financial assistance to lawyers having less than 10 years practice, we may extend it to others if the need arises in future."
In addition, the committee also appealed to the lawyers having more than fifteen years of practice to donate funds generously to the state bar council by depositing their contribution for the purpose of providing financial assistance to the needy Advocates of the State.
