COVID-19 Drugs Hoarding Case: Delhi Court Adjourns Hearing Against Gautam Gambhir Foundation & AAP MLAs Till February Next Year

A Delhi Court has adjourned till February 7, 2022, the case against Gautam Gambhir Foundation and two Aam Aadmi Party MLAs- Praveen Kumar and Imran Hussain, for allegedly hoarding and illegally distributing Covid-19 drugs during the second wave.

Metropolitan Magistrate Pritu Raj adjourned the matter till first week of February.

The Drug Controller of Delhi Government had launched a prosecution in the Court of law against Gautam Gambhir Foundation, it's trustees and CEO on July 8 for contravening the provisions of Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940.

Additionally, prosecution was launched against two Aam Aadmi Party MLAs namely Praveen Kumar and Imran Hussain over similar allegations.

An inquiry was made by the investigating team in respect of specific allegations against BJP MP Gautam Gambhir and AAP MLAs for hoarding and illegally stocking Covid-19 medicines and drugs while conducting free medical camp.

According to the inquiry, Hussain had procured medical oxygen from an unauthorized source as no document was supplied by Haryana Drug Control Department to show that the re-filler held a valid drug license.

Earlier, the Court had pulled up the Drug Controller of the Delhi Government for its "unsatisfactory inquiry/Investigation" in the matter.

"You want us to shut our eyes. You can't take is for a ride. If you think we are so gullible, we are naive, we'll give you back hard. You better do your job," the Court had said.

The Court was recently informed that the Delhi Government wishes to withdraw the Prosecution launched against such persons or organisations who were involved in free distribution of medical oxygen to Covid patients without any wrongful intention.
