The Gauhati High Court yesterday for the first time in its history; celebrated the Constitution Day to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. The Programme was organized by the Gauhati High Court in association with the Gauhati High Court Bar association and Advocates' Association. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Sudhanshu Dhulia spoke widely on the words used in the Preamble. Apart from hailing on the constitutional developments, he emphasized on two scholarly speeches of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar delivered on 4 th November, 1948 (at the time of presentation of draft constitution) and on 25th November, 1949 (on the day before adoption of the constitution). The first speech concentrates on constitutional values towards the nation. The very speech says that being a flexible and strong constitution, it is a workable constitution in time of peace as well as in time of war. Describing its importance; referring to the speech of the Architect of Indian Constitution, His Lordship mentioned that in the time to come, for any failure of the constitutional ideals; people of the nation are only to be blamed.

Quoting the other noteworthy speech of the Father of Constitution, His Lordship reiterates the view of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar that unless and until we secure the social and economic equality, our quest for political equality will remain incomplete. We have to achieve social and economic equality where liberty, equality and fraternity work as a trinity. Highlighting the word 'Fraternity' used in the preamble, His Lordship said that although the meaning of the word has never been discussed much in comparison to other words, it is indispensable in acquiring Justice, Equality and Liberty.
Earlier on the occasion, Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak delivered the welcome address and spoke about the significance of the Constitution Day.
