A plea has been moved in the Delhi High Court seeking court's direction to the Delhi Government to not to use terms such as 'Tablighi Jamaat' or 'Masjid Markaz' while referring to COVID19 cases.

Filed by Advocate MM Kashyap, the plea claims that using such terms for classifying coronavirus cases leads to religious profiling and communal antagonism.

While highlighting that the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal himself used these terms in his tweets, the Petitioner argues that such a classification has a potential of fuelling communal tension in the capital city.

It is submitted that the situation in the city can potentially get worse considering that it already witnessed communal riots in the recent past, in the northeast districts.

'...it was the need of the hour that the nation is united in the fight against coronavirus and giving communal angle to the cases would hamper the same', the petition states.

While seeking immediate injunction on the communal reporting of the Tablighi Jamaat incident, the Petitioner argues that that the Delhi Chief Minister has violated the advisory or guidelines issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO) which has strictly advised to refrain from religious profiling of COVID19 cases.

In light of these submissions, the Petitioner has asked the court to ensure that the Delhi Government prohibits and stops the classification of COVID19 cases on communal basis by using terms such as 'Tablighi Jamaat' or 'Masjid Markaz'
