Justice Pankaj Mithal on Monday took oath as the 34th Chief Justice of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court.

He was administered the oath of office by the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at the Convention Centre, Jammu. Warrant of appointment of Justice Mithal was read by Jawad Ahmed, the Registrar General of the High Court. Proceedings of the oath ceremony were conducted by Nitishwar Kumar, Principal Secretary to Lt. Governor.

Former Chief Justice of the J&K High Court, Justice Gita Mittal; Judges of the J&K High Court; sitting as well as retired Judges from Allahabad High Court; Advocate General; Advisors to the Lt Governor; Chief Secretary; Administrative Secretaries; Senior officers of Judiciary; Civil Administration; Police; family members and friends of Justice Pankaj Mithal were present during the ceremony.

After taking oath as Chief Justice, Justice Mithal reached High Court and was given Guard of Honour by a smart contingent of J&K Police. Later, Chief Justice reviewed the functioning of all the sections of the High Court and took stock of the various facilities available for litigants, lawyers, and overall infrastructure.

Justice Mithal graduated in Commerce from Allahabad University in the year 1982 and passed L.L.B. from Meerut College, Meerut affiliated to Ch. Charan Singh University in the year 1985.

He enrolled as an advocate in Bar Council of U.P. in the Year 1985. Elevated as Additional Judge on 07/07/2006. Took oath as permanent Judge on Jul 02, 2008.
