A Chandigarh district court on Tuesday issued notice to actress BJP Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut and two others on a complaint filed by an advocate, seeking an FIR against them for allegedly maligning the image of Sikhs in the 'Emergency movie'.

JMIC Ankit Airi said, "This happens to be a fresh complaint under Section 196 (1), 197 (1), 302, 299 of the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. Since the proviso thereof bars the Court from taking any cognizance of the offence(s), without giving an opportunity of being heard to the accused, let a per-cognizance notice to the accused be issued in this matter for 05.12.2024. Meanwhile, the report of the concerned Police Station be called for the date fixed."

Ravinder Singh Bassi, an advocate at the Chandigarh district court alleged that in the movie "Emergency" Kangana Ranaut and Zee Studios have tried to malign the image of Sikhs and particularly targeted the Ex-Jathedar of "Akal Takth Sahib" by presenting him as a terrorist in the movie.

It further stated that the Siromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee which is the elected body of Sikhs had clearly passed a resolution and made a rule that nobody can depict, portray and no humans can personify as Sikh Gurus, Saints and Ex-Jathedars.

“The accused without studying proper Historical facts and figures portrayed the Sikhs in bad shape and also made wrong and false allegations against the supreme temporal seat of the Sikh Community as in the trailer of the movie shown the sitting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takth Sahib demanding a separate state, which is totally false and it was shown just to malign the image of Sikhs and Akal Takth Jathedars,” Bassi further alleged in the complaint.
