Centre Notifies Appointment Of Justice Kotiswar Singh As Jammu & Kashmir & Ladakh High Court CJ

The Central Government has notified the appointment of Justice N. Kotiswar Singh as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
A notification to this effect reads,
"In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh, Judge of the Gauhati High Court to be ChiefJustice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office".
Justice Kotiswar Singh is serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court since January 12, 2023 after the then Chief Justice Rashmin Manharbhai Chhaya demitted the office on January 11.
Justice Singh was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Gauhati High Court in 2008. He served as the Advocate General of the State of Manipur from November 2007 till his elevation to the Bench in October 2011. He was appointed as a Judge of the Gauhati High Court in November 2012. He served as the Acting Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court w.e.f. 21.09.2020 to 09.01.2021 and from 09.05.2022 to 22.06.2022.
