The Central Government has notified the appointment Adv. N. Unni Krishnan Nair, Advocate as an Additional Judge of Gauhati High Court. 

The Supreme Court Collegium consisting of Chief Justice of India Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Sanjiv Khanna, had recommended Adv. N Unni Krishnan Nair on 18th October. 

The Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court in consultation with his two senior-most colleagues had recommended the elevation of the above Advocates as Judges of the High Court on 29 May 2023.

"Bearing in mind that the candidate has extensive practice which is reflected in his substantially high professional income and a large number of reported judgments delivered in cases in which he appeared/argued and other relevant facts and circumstances, the Collegium is of the considered view that the candidate is fit and suitable for appointment as a Judge of the High Court," the Collegium had said about Adv. N Unni Krishnan Nair in its statement.

The High Court at present has 24 judges out of a sanctioned strength of 30 judges.
