The Centre on Monday has notified the appointment of Additional Judge of Calcutta High Court, Justice Aniruddha Roy as a Permanent Judge of the High Court. The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended Justice Aniruddha Roy to be a Permanent Judge of the High Court pursuant to a meeting held by the Collegium on December 14.
"In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Aniruddha Roy, Additional Judge of the Calcutta High court, to be a Judge of the Calcutta High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office", the notification issued by the Law Ministry reads.
The Central Government had notified his appointment in May 2020 as an Additional Judge of the Calcutta High Court for a period of two years. The Supreme Court Collegium had reiterated its recommendation to elevate him as a judge in January last year.
