The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC)has issued instructions requiring the import of food consignments to be accompanied by a Health Certificate.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued the instruction. FSSAI stated that with effect from November 01, 2022, imported food consignments of food categories as specified in FSS (Food Product Standards & Food Additives) shall be accompanied by a Health Certificate issued by the Competent Authority of the exporting country.

The food categories include milk and milk products; pork and pork products; and fish and fish products.

"It is requested that necessary action may be taken to sensitise officers under your jurisdiction. The difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this instruction may be brought to the notice of the Board," the CBIC stated.
