The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has notified the instructions regarding changes to the import policy for fresh (green) areca nuts.

The CBIC directed the Kolkata Customs Zone to develop an appropriate mechanism for the registration of registration certificates (RC), debit/utilisation of the quantity in the RC, and monitoring the validity of the RC.

The Kolkata Customs Zone was instructed to develop an overall monitoring mechanism for the effective implementation of the revised policy stipulation in light of the fact that the product, Fresh (green) Areca Nut, is a prohibited item in the absence of compliance with the policy conditions.

The Board has issued a notification dated September 28, 2022. It notified the procedure for the application and issuance of a registration certificate for the import of fresh (green) Areca Nut from Bhutan under ITC (HS) 0802 8010 without a Minimum Import Price (MIP).
