The Centre has appointed Justice Rajesh Bindal, senior-most Judge of the Calcutta High Court, as the Acting Chief Justice of that High Court.
He will succeed Chief Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan, who is set to retire on 29th April, 2021.
Justice Bindal obtained is degree in Law from Kurukshetra University in 1985 and joined the profession at the Punjab & Haryana High Court in September that year.
He was elevated as a Judge of the Punjab & Haryana High Court on March 22, 2006.
He was transferred to the Jammu and Kashmir High Court on 19th November, 2018. There, he served as an Acting Chief Justice from December 2020.
He was transferred as a Judge of the Calcutta High Court vide notification dated 31st December, 2020 and was sworn in at Calcutta on January 5, 2021.
Justice Radhakrishnan secured his LL.B. Degree from Bangalore University having studied Law in K.G.F. Law College, Kolar Gold Fields. He enrolled as an Advocate in December, 1983 and shifted to the Kerala High Court in 1988.
He was sworn-in as a permanent Judge of the Kerala High Court on 14th October, 2004.
He served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court from May 13, 2016 to August 1, 2016 and from the afternoon of February 16, 2017 till he was sworn in as Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court in the forenoon of March 18, 2017.
He was the Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court from March 18, 2017 to July 6, 2018.
He was sworn in as Chief Justice of the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad for the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on July 7, 2018.
He was sworn-in as the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court on January 1, 2019.
He has sworn in as Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court on April 4, 2019 and will retire on 29th of this month.
