In an "extremely urgent" letter addressed to the Union Home Secretary, the Registrar General of the Calcutta High Court, R. Samanta, informed the Ministry of Home Affairs that it had received a letter threatening to cause multiple bomb blasts in the high court premises.

The letter issued at the directions of Chief Justice Thottathil Radhakrishnan disclosed that the threat was made by one Hardarshan Singh Nagpal along with his son by a letter dated September 9, who intimidated to blast the high court building on September 30.

In view thereof, the Registrar forwarded the letter to the Ministry and requested it to take up the matter with top-most priority and avert the untoward incident.

The court also supplied a copy of the letter to the Ministry of Law and Justice for necessary action.
