A court in Uttar Pradesh's Gautambuddha Nagar on Wednesday convicted BJP leader Sangeet Som under IPC Section 188 for violating CrPC Section 144 in the year 2015 in connection with the Dadri-Mohammad Akhlaq lynching case.
The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (2) Pradeep Kumar Kushwaha imposed a penalty of ₹800 on him as punishment. Som had violated CrPC Section 144 restrictions put up by the local administration at Akhlaq's Bisahda village.
For the uninitiated, Akhlaq was lynched by a mob in the Dadri area of Gautam Budh Nagar in the year 2015 over the allegations that he had eaten beef during Eid and had stored it for later consumption as well.
After this, the local administration imposed Section 144 CrPC in the area, which prohibits the assembly of four or more people in an area, however, Som had addressed a public meeting while the prohibition was in operation.
