The Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Tuesday suspended the license of 3 advocates vide resolution dated July 12 for the registration of criminal cases against them under the Indian Penal Code, 1860 (IPC), Goondas Act of 1982 and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS Act). Disciplinary proceedings have also been initiated against the concerned advocates in this regard.
The concerned advocates have been prohibited from practicing in all Courts, Tribunals and other authorities in the country until the disposal of the pending disciplinary proceedings against them.
Advocates P. Sathish and P. Regivines have been charged under Sections 8(c) and 20(b) (II) of the NDPS Act by the Sankar Nagar Police Station, Chennai. Additionally, Advocate S. Jothiraja has been charged under Sections 147, 148, 341, 294(b), 506(ii) and 307 of the IPC and also detained under the Goondas Act of 1982 by the District Collector, Thoothkudi District.
In a related news, last week the Bar Council of Delhi had suspended the license of an Advocate for submitting a fake Covid-19 certificate for seeking financial assistance.
