After getting relief from the Supreme Court, Republic TV Chief Arnab Goswami has now filed an anticipatory bail application before the Sessions Court in Mumbai apprehending arrest in the case registered against him at NM Joshi Marg police station for allegedly obstructing police officers during his arrest by Raigad police on November 4.

The bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud granted relief to Arnab Goswami today and ordered Raigad police to immediately release him from Taloja jail.

In the said FIR before NM Joshi Marg police station, case has been registered under Sections 353 (assault to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) against Goswami's wife and his son for obstructing the police officers from performing their duty, under Section 353 of IPC. Two unknown persons, a man and a woman have also been booked in the matter.

The said FIR has been filed by 49-year-old police officer Sujata Tanvade.

The Mumbai Police had arrested Arnab Goswami from his residence in Lower Parel early in the morning on november 4, for allegedly abetting suicide of a 53-year-old interior designer Anvay Naik.

As per the videos shared by visual media, the cops entered Goswami's residence and took him into custody, after a tussle. Goswami had claimed that the police assaulted him physically.

However, as per the fresh FIR that has been registered by Sujata Tanvade claiming that Goswami had assaulted her during the morning of arrest.

So far as Goswami's wife is concerned, the Police have claimed that she tore the intimation regarding Goswami's arrest.

The Raigad police had closed the case in April 2019 saying that they did not find evidence against the accused named in the suicide note, including Goswami.

However, in May this year, Anvay's daughter approached the Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh seeking the case to be reopened.

Arnab is likely to be released soon.
