The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday directed the opening up of a private hospital, which was attached under the SARFAESI Act, for treatment of COVID-19 patients.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice J K Maheshwari and Justice M Satyanarayana Murthy passed the order in relation to the auction proceedings against Purna Sai Hospitals at Guntur, which were initiated by the Syndicate Bank.

The petitioners voluntarily requested that instead of closure of the hospital, medical facilities and the staff available in the hospital may be utilised in view of the medical emergency.

The Advocate General reported no objection for utilisation of the said hospital for the purpose of providing treatment to COVID-19 patients.

On that basis, the Court stayed the order of attachment, and observed that "patients with Novel Covid-19 (corona virus) may be treated in the subject hospital with the assistance of the doctors working therein, by using the medical facilities available, including equipment and paramedical staff, till further orders".

"It is made clear here that the hospital be utilised only by the Government for the patients of Novel Covid-19 (corona virus) only", the bench added.
