The bail application of activist and Indian National Congress (INC) worker Sadaf Zafar was rejected by Special Chief Judicial Magistrate, Lucknow, Sudesh Kumar.

Zafar was arrested during anti-CAA protests taking place on 19 December in Lucknow. She was in the process of recording a Facebook Live video when the police picked her up. The video shows her asking the police about why she is being arrested despite not being complicit in the violence that ensued.

Naheed, Zafar's sister has alleged that Zafar was brutally beaten with batons by male police and then taken for a medical examination before being sent to prison. U.P. Police has categorically denied the assault and have stated that they have enough proof of her involvement in the nefarious activities.

Today, her plea for bail was denied and the charges against her involve criminal conspiracy, sabotage, inciting violence and attempt to murder. Her lawyers will be moving the Sessions Court now.
